The Turquoise Coast and Lycia region
This is one of the most sought after Mediterranean coastal regions, surrounded by the Taurus and Babadag mountains and lush pine trees. If you come in Winter the top of the mountains are covered in snow which slowly melts through Spring disappearing towards the end of May. The warm sea is turquoise blue and the magnificent and famous Blue Lagoon at Oludeniz is only 10 minutes away by dolmus ( local bus) and is described as the most beautiful beach in Turkey.
Turkey has more classical ruins than Italy or Greece and you will see many in this region especially if you walk the Lycian Way. Follow in the footsteps of Alexander the Great on this long distance walking trail which starts in Fethiye and stretches around the coast and mountain for 509 km and ends in Antalya. Hisaronu and Ovacik areas
Bougainvilla is a seven minute downhill stroll away to the village of Ovacik and the Dolmus (local mini bus) which will take you to Olu Deniz resort with the beach, bars and restaurant and to the famous Blue Lagoon.
Keep on walking and you arrive in lively Hisaronu which offers you a variety of shops, restaurants and good night life. Ovacik is far quieter offering more authentic Turkish restaurants and an aqua park.
The Dolmus bus offers a fantastic service. It's cheap and runs every few minutes in the high season. It runs from Olu Deniz through Hisaronu, Ovacik and takes you to the big bustling harbour town of Fethiye. Do visit the fish market, the old town bazaar and the harbour. Also a place for the shoppers ---- designer ware shops and the Tuesday market is a must.
